In recent years, the language of clothing has become increasingly familiar. Terms such as organic, natural, sustainable and eco-friendly now appear across almost every category, including children's wear. While this accessibility is in many ways positive, it has also made it more difficult to distinguish between meaningful standards and well-intentioned descriptions.
As we began developing our collections, we found ourselves returning to a more fundamental question: what is the safest fabric for children to wear every day? That question led us to GOTS.
The Global Organic Textile Standard, better known as GOTS, is widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive certifications for organic textiles. While many people associate organic cotton solely with farming practices, GOTS extends far beyond the cotton field. It sets rigorous requirements for every major stage of production, including spinning, knitting, dyeing, printing and manufacturing. It also incorporates recognised environmental and social criteria, meaning the certification considers not only how a garment is made, but the conditions under which it is produced. This distinction matters.
Cotton occupies only a small percentage of the world's agricultural land, yet conventional cotton farming has historically relied heavily on synthetic pesticides and fertilisers. Organic farming seeks to reduce that reliance through practices that support healthier soils and ecosystems. GOTS builds on this by looking beyond the raw fibre to the wider textile supply chain, recognising that responsible clothing depends on every step of the journey, not just where it begins.
For us, that's what makes the certification meaningful. It represents an independent standard that asks difficult questions on our behalf, rather than asking families to take a brand's word for it.Â
We have been choosing GOTS certified organic cotton for many years now, across our collections as they have grown from baby essentials to pieces for children up to 14 years old. Over time, it has become more of a foundation we continue to build on.
There is another reason we continue to choose GOTS certified organic cotton, and it is perhaps the simplest one: children live in their clothes. They climb playgrounds, build blanket forts, curl up with books, nap on long car rides and return home with grass stains on their knees. Clothing is rarely something they think about, nor should it be. The best children's clothing quietly supports childhood without getting in the way of it.
Parents make hundreds of micro decisions every day, most of which are forgotten by bedtime. Choosing what children wear may seem like one of the quieter decisions, yet those quieter decisions often shape everyday life in ways we hardly notice.
Perhaps that's why we return to GOTS, collection after collection. Not because the label itself is important, but because it reflects something we believe in: that thoughtful design begins long before a garment reaches a wardrobe, and that care is often found in the decisions no one sees.
