As gambier depleted the soil in the Orchard Road plantations, they were abandoned and replaced with nutmeg, another prized crop for seasoning and preserving food. Nutmeg orchards soon became a common sight in Orchard road with thousands grown in hopes of profit. Unfortunately a mysterious disease broke out in 1857, and wiped out all the nutmeg orchards in 5 years. With the nutmeg era over, Orchard Road began to develop as a residential hub. We pay tribute to the nutmeg heritage of Orchard road with these embroidered tunic cheongsams.
